Hambrook Loop Walk

Hambrook-leaflet---Inside
546 kb

Please note: This short loop is mostly off-road and uses some rarely used footpaths. You will need to be steady on your feet to complete this walk due to trip hazards and low-lying branches.

While you are on Whiteshill common, take time to visit the war memorial, look for interesting funghi on the common and visit the wild flower meadow planted by Frome Valley Environmental Network CiC to the south of Worrells Lane.

1) Start at Whiteshill Common. There is parking at various points around the Common and regular buses that run on Bristol Road. Take time to enjoy the main common and small common including the wildflower meadow before starting the walk.

2) Head down Moorend Road, away from Hambrook Primary School.

3) Just before the bridge over the River Frome, take the Frome Valley walkway public footpath on your right.

4) At the end of this path, go through the pedestrian gates. At the road turn left (taking the bridge over Bradley Brook) and turn immediately right through a wooden gate, in front of the pink house.

5) Go through a second gate (metal this time) and head round to the right onto the field. Walk through the field towards the road.

6) Take the stile out of the field and cross Bristol Road heading towards a farm gate; climb over the gate using the footplate and following the public footpath sign.

7) Keep along this path with the motorway to your left and Bradley Brook to your right.

8) Don't take the first footpath sign you see directing you right across a field, instead keep going, following the fields round keeping them on your right hand side.

9) You can detour from the loop here: as you come out onto the tarmac track, go left behind some stables. Walk for approx. 100 metres to get a view of St Michael's Church spire in Winterbourne through the railway tunnel. Then turn back and re-trace your steps.

10) Once you're back on the loop, continue along the tarmac track and head right to walk along Quarry Barton.

11) You will cross over Bradley Brook and head up to Bristol Road. Here, go right and immediately left to cross the road and head onto Pye Corner.

12) Head up Pye Corner towards Whiteshill Common where you'll be back where you started.
